Works on its own. Better with a Mac.
Import music through the Files app and Kanora copies it into the device’s own library. There is no account to make.
Pair it with a Mac running Kanora and the Mac’s library is there too: browse it, stream it at home, and download albums for later. It is one app, laid out for each screen.
What you can do with Kanora for iPhone & iPad.
Your own library
- Import from the Files app, including iCloud Drive and On My iPhone or iPad. Kanora copies the music into the device’s library.
- On iPad, drag files in from another app.
- Imports MP3, FLAC, AAC, Apple Lossless (.m4a) and WAV files.
- Review an import before it is added.
From a USB drive
- Plays a Kanora library from a USB drive in place, without copying it to the device.
- Works when the Mac app’s library lives on that drive. Kanora only reads it.
- Switch to the drive from the library switcher, and eject it safely from inside the app.
With a Mac
- Finds the Mac on your home network, or connect by typing its address.
- Pairs with a short code shown on the Mac.
- Browse and stream the Mac’s whole library.
- Download albums or single tracks for offline listening, in original quality or as a smaller MP3 copy.
Listening
- Plays in the background, with Now Playing on the lock screen and in Control Center.
- AirPlay to speakers and receivers.
- A queue you can reorder.
- Sync albums and playlists to Kanora on Apple Watch (the Watch app is in development).
Browsing
- Artists, albums, tracks, playlists, collections and spoken word.
- Grid, list, Shelf and Cover Flow album views.
- Search, and listening stats.
On iPad
- A sidebar that folds into a tab bar, with Add Music always to hand.
- Wide layouts, with import review side by side and a full-screen album page.
- Keyboard shortcuts to move between sections and start an import.
- Works in Slide Over and narrow windows.
Your own albums, in the car.
CarPlay comes with the iPhone app. Browse artists, albums and playlists from the dashboard, with Recently Added, Shuffle All, Spoken Word and Singles close to hand, and an A to Z index for long lists.
CarPlay plays the music that is on the phone: its own library, albums you have downloaded from the Mac, or a USB drive you chose in the phone app.
Room to browse.
On iPad the library opens out: a sidebar, wide album pages, and import review side by side. Drag music in from another app and it joins the library.

What it doesn’t do yet.
Better to read it here than find out after you install it.
- No gapless playback, crossfade or ReplayGain.
- It cannot control what the Mac is playing, or stream the Mac’s library away from home.
- CarPlay plays what is on the phone. It does not stream from the Mac, and has no search.
- No Siri, Shortcuts, widgets or Live Activities.
- It does not import AIFF, OGG or Opus files.
- Sending music to DLNA speakers is in development, and off unless you turn it on.
